چکیده

The development of spatial optimization and simulation techniques in GIS can greatly improve the quality and efficiency of maps generated to pursue spatial pattern objectives in landscape design and planning. This chapter describes how pattern optimization and simulation can be useful in visualizing alternative possible landscapes and for evaluating landscape planning and design scenarios, and describes various approaches that can be used to generate prescribed landscape patterns. Analyses are presented of performance benchmarks and external factors that affect optimal landscape patterns, using simulated-annealing-based algorithms on hypothetical two-dimensional gridded landscapes. The use and value of landscape simulation in environmental GIS applications is discussed

An improved neutral landscape model for recreating real landscapes and generating landscape series for spatial ecological simulations

Many studies have assessed the effect of landscape patterns on spatial ecological processes by simulating these processes in computer-generated landscapes with varying composition and configuration. To generate such landscapes, various neutral landscape models have been developed. However, the limited set of landscape-level pattern variables included in these models is often inadequate to gener...

بررسی دو شاخص کمی کردن الگوهای چشم‌انداز با استفاده از RS و GIS در منطقه حفاظت شده موته

Landscape ecology as a modern interdisciplinary science offers new concepts, theories, and methods for land evaluation and management. One main part of landscape ecology is describing patterns in the landscape and interpreting the ecological effects of these patterns on flora, fauna, flow of energy and materials. Landscape studies require methods to identify and quantify spatial patterns of lan...

Simple Process-Based Simulators for Generating Spatial Patterns of Habitat Loss and Fragmentation: A Review and Introduction to the G-RaFFe Model

Landscape simulators are widely applied in landscape ecology for generating landscape patterns. These models can be divided into two categories: pattern-based models that generate spatial patterns irrespective of the processes that shape them, and process-based models that attempt to generate patterns based on the processes that shape them. The latter often tend toward complexity in an attempt ...

Multiresolution Fragmentation Profiles for Assessing Hierarchically Structured Landscape Patterns

For landscapes that are cast as categorical raster maps, we present an entropy based method for obtaining a multiresolution characterization of spatial pattern. The result is a conditional entropy profile which reflects the rate of information loss as map resolution is degraded by increasing the pixel size 1 through a resampling filter. We choose a random filter because of desirable properties ...

Conservation Ecology: A Fractal Landscape Realizer for Generating Synthetic Maps

A fractal landscape realizer has been developed that generates synthetic landscape maps to user specifications. The alternative landscape realizations are not identical to the actual maps after which they are patterned, but are similar statistically (i.e., the areas and fractal character of each category are replicated). A fractal or self-affine pattern generator is used to provide a spatial pr...
